The ITS department provides support for activating and deactivating network ports to ensure secure and efficient connectivity across campus facilities. This service includes enabling ports for new devices, disabling unused ports for security, and troubleshooting network connectivity related to port status.
All requests are reviewed by ITS to ensure cybersecurity protocols are followed. Unauthorized movement or relocation of connected devices is not permitted, and port changes will only be made after proper assessment. Additionally, it is against ITS guidelines and security protocols to plug unauthorized devices directly into network ports without ITS knowledge.
Common devices connected to network ports at Clackamas Community College includes podiums, printers, office desktop computers, some docking stations, and other network-enabled equipment.
NOTE:
For assistance with setting up a new employee's office/desk, please see the New Hire Technology Request found under the Computer, Devices, & Printer Support category. For help with relocating or reorganizing current employee's office/desk, please see the Employee Desktop/Laptop form.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's):
How can I tell if a port is active?
ITS has tools available to verify whether a network port is active. If your device (such as a computer, docking station, or printer) is plugged into the port and you are able to connect to the Internet, the port is active.
Why was the port in my office/desk deactivated?
Network ports may be deactivated for several reasons. Common causes include damage, outages or malfunctions, inactivity, or suspected malicious activity. Unused ports are disabled to prevent unauthorized or unknown devices from being connected.
I want to rearrange my desk/office and relocate my phone/computer, should I let ITS know?
Yes! ITS prefers to assist with the relocation of ITS managed equipment to ensure ports are activated/deactivated accordingly, cables are managed and all newly arranged equipment is working as intended. Current employees can submit an Employee Desktop/Laptop service request form for assistance with rearranging ITS technology.
