Shared Drive Support

NOTE: All department drive access requests must include appropriate managerial approvals attached or must be submitted by the manager on the employee's behalf.

Department drives are networked drives hosted locally on Clackamas Community College's network. Access is permission-controlled and limited to specific departments and/or divisions, giving employees a shared space to store, manage and access their work along with department procedures, practices and other materials. To reach these drives remotely, employees need remote-access tools such as DirectAccess or AoVPN installed on their CCC-issued devices.

While department drives are a fine option for long-term information storage, they are not cloud-based. This means that during network outages or other campus-wide disruptions, the drives will become inaccessible. For this reason, ITS strongly encourages departments to store their information in their offered cloud-based storage instead.

Looking for access to department drives? Submit a department drive access ticket with the relative information.

Report any department drive related issues or malfunctions to ITS to receive assistance with, but not limited to, the following types of errors:

  • Access errors
  • Intermittent dropping
  • Syncing issues and more.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's):

Can I submit my own department drive access request?

Employee's can submit their own access requests if they attach written managerial approval to their request. Alternatively, direct managers can submit access requests for the employee's to have access to department drives.

I use a Macbook, can I get access to networked department drives?

No, employees with Apple computers cannot access networked department drives but can access cloud based department drives instead.

I am working remote and all of a sudden lost access to my department drives, what should I do?

Employees can submit a department drive issue ticket to alert the service desk of a remote access problem, or they can call ITS directly. CCC computers use DirectAccess, or the more modern AoVPN, to let CCC-issued computers connect to local networks remotely. If you suddenly lose access to your department drives, the cause is most likely a DirectAccess or AoVPN issue. Because problems like this can occur, ITS continues to recommend working in cloud-based drives instead.

What is DirectAccess or AoVPN?

DirectAccess (DA) and AlwaysOnVPN (AoVPN) are Windows based remote accessing tools that enable CCC-issued devices to securely connect to corporate networks and shared drives from any location.
