Account Compromise

The CCC account compromise service provides rapid response and remediation when a user or system account is suspected or confirmed to have been accessed by an unauthorized party. Reporting unauthorized access quickly allows ITS to contain the threat, limit damage, restore secure access and identify how the compromise occurred to prevent future access.

Signs that your account may have been compromised includes:

  • Unexpected password reset or MFA prompts that you, as a user, didn't initiate.
  • Inability to log in with known-correct credentials, or being unexpectedly logged out of active sessions.
  • Sign-in alerts from unfamiliar locations, devices, IP addresses or unusual times.
  • Unexpected activity in connected accounts or services (purchased, file access or changes you, as the user, didn't make, etc.)
  • New devices or integrations authorized on the account.

Alternatively, give ITS an immediate call at (503) 594- 3500 for quick notification and interception.

To prevent an account compromise:

  • Use strong, unique passwords without personal identifiers (name, address, pets name, etc.) and use unique passwords for each service.
  • Enable and use your CCC multi-factor authentication.
  • Be alert to phishing, always verify unexpected emails and never click on unknown links and attachments.
  • Never enter your CCC credentials on an unverified page reached via an unsolicited link.
  • Avoid logging into your CCC account on shared, public, unprotected devices.
  • Report any suspicious activity promptly!
