What does "First Generation" mean?

There are many definitions of "First Generation" used at different institutions and by different grantors. CCC uses the federal definition we need to collect for IPEDS reporting. Students are classified as First Generation if none of their parents or guardians have completed a Bachelor's degree. 

On the admissions application, we ask: Are you a first-generation college student?

The information icon text is: First-Generation means none of your parents or guardians have completed a 4-year degree. 

The response options are: Yes, No, Prefer Not To Answer
