Overview/Visual Aid

You can use this map as a guide to see what steps you need to take based on what situation you find yourself in. Each section in this guide is color coded to help you follow the right steps. Each section in this guide will have screenshots and go into further detail than what is provided in this flowchart.

Don't know your password

When you do not know your password, there are two different methods you can obtain a new one. If you have previously setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on your account, you can use a "self service" method to change the password using your MFA to validate your identity. If you do not have this setup on your account. you will need to get help from a staff member.

Help from a staff method

It is recommended to have as much information ready as possible such as your student email address and student ID number to present to the staff member.

Here are your two sources you can contact for help:

  1.  Registration
    • Phone number: 503-594-6074
    • Email Address: registration@clackamas.edu

  2. Cougar Connect
    • Phone number: 503-594-6632
    • Email Address: cougarconnect@clackamas.edu

Once you get your temporary password, move on to the next section to changing the temporary password into a permanent password.

Self Service Method

Reminder: This method only will work If you have previously setup Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) on your account.

There are two ways you can get to the password reset page, either through MyClackamas or the college main website:

On the MyClackamas login page, select "Can't access your account?"

OR

On the college's website, you can go to Password help page to change your password.

You can go directly to page using this URL: https://www.clackamas.edu/campus-life/student-services/cougarconnect/password-help

You can also access the page by going to the college's website. Then Select Campus Life > Student Services >  Cougar Connect Tech help > Password Help.

The next step would be to select "I forgot my password". Then you would select "Reset password"

You will get to another screen that will need you to enter your student email address and verify you are a human.

The next page will use your Multi-Factor Authentication method to verify that it is truly you trying to change your password.

The next page will allow you to change your password to a new one. The password must meet these requirements:

When you get the password changed, you should be met with the success page.
Please remember that it may take up to an hour for the new password to work! If it does not work immediately, please give it time.

Change temporary/current password

If you received a temporary password from a college staff or you just need to change your current password, you can access the webpage to change the password from either MyClackamas or on the college website itself.

From college website

You can go directly to page using this URL: https://www.clackamas.edu/campus-life/student-services/cougarconnect/password-help

You can also access the page by going to the college's website. Then Select Campus Life > Student Services >  Cougar Connect Tech help > Password Help.

Go down to the "password change page" section for next steps.

From MyClackamas

If you are on the MyClackamas portal, you can select "Account Information" off to the left and then select "Password Help". This will take you to the same password change page that is on the college's website.

Password change page

Select "Changing my temporary password". Then select "Change Password".

The next page will allow you to change the password. You will first need to enter your student email address. The old password will be either your temporary password that you were given OR it would be the password that is currently set for the account.

The password must meet these requirements:

Please remember that it may take up to an hour for the new password to work! If it does not work immediately, please give it time.

Setup Multi-Factor Authentication

Setting up your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is an important part to keeping your account safe. It allows you to have a second line of defence to prevent unwanted login attempts from getting through into your account. Having this setup also makes changing your password much easier as it allows you to change the password yourself. We use the MFA to verify your identity to make sure it truly is you trying to change your password.

If you have not accessed your student email through MyClackamas before, setting up your MFA through MyClackamas will be your easiest option as it should prompt you to set it up automatically. If you have any issues getting the setup request to come up, using the direct URL link can help you get to the setup manually.

Note: If you have any issues setting up your MFA. Please contact ITS using the phone number: 503-594-3500

Through MyClackamas

When you are in your student portal of MyClackamas, you will want to click on "Student Email" in the top middle. If you do not get a notice for "more information being required for your account", move on to the "Direct Link" section to get to it manually. If you do get the notice, scroll down to the "Setup Process" section.

Direct Link

Use this link to go direct to the MFA setup page. You can also manually type it into any web browser:

https://aka.ms/mfasetup

It may require you to sign in to your Microsoft account. This will be the same email address and password you use for MyClackamas.

Setup Process

Whether you used the MyClackamas route or the Direct Link route, you should get to a page that asks for more information needed for your account.

The next screen allows you to pick your authentication method of preference. By default, they will offer you to use the Microsoft Authenticator app for a smart phone. You can use this if you want, or you can select "I want to set up a different method" in the bottom left.

I have found that using the "Phone" authentication method has given people the easiest setup process. It is entirely up to you, however, which method you would like to use.

For the phone setup, you would just need to enter your phone number, and then select your prefered contact method. It can either send you a call or a text message with a code. After the setup, it will test your authentication method to make sure it works.

After that you should be all set!
